From October 13 to 15, Shift2DC will attend the DC Grids Conference, a three-day international event bringing together experts from industry, academia, and policy to exchange insights and shape the future of Direct Current (DC) technologies in Europe. The event will take place at Zwevegem, Belgium organized by EnSy Lemcko and Ghent University | EnerGhentIC.
Aligned with the theme “From strategic vision to pilot implementation,” the event will feature real-world demonstrators, expert sessions on data centers, standardization, protection and power quality, and an exclusive guided tour of the RE/SOURCED living lab, where visitors can experience DC technology in operation.
The Shift2DC project will be showcased on Wednesday, October 14, from 11:15 to 12:45 during the session “Pitches: Pilot Projects Across Europe” presenting two of the project’s Demonstrators:
- DC Port Demonstrator in Madeira – Presented by Pedro Costa (INESC ID / University of Lisbon). Using a digital twin of the port, the project is exploring how direct current can support future port infrastructure and operations, while also assessing stakeholder and user perspectives. The project helps identify where DC can create value in increasingly electrified port environments.
- Shift2DC Project: Datacenter Demonstrator– Presented by Kilian Drexler (Fraunhofer).
Located at Bachmann’s premises in Stuttgart, Germany, the Data Centre Demonstrator will be housed in a container featuring two compartments, both powered by the same DC distribution grid. The project showcases an edge data center architecture where data center and non-data center applications interact—reusing waste heat generated by the server infrastructure to heat the adjacent office area.
Additionally, other Shift2DC partners will contribute as speakers throughout the event, including Ahmad Makkieh (Schneider Electric) and Professor Rik De Doncker (RWTH Aachen University).
