The Shift2DC project was part of this year’s edition of Enlit Europe, one of the most significant conferences and exhibitions in the energy sector, which saw a record-breaking attendance of 15,000 energy experts. Held from October 22 to 24 in Milan, Italy, the event included over 200 sessions and 500 speakers, serving as the perfect platform to disclose the research being developed under the Shift2DC project and to engage with industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers from across Europe.
Over three dynamic days, visitors had the opportunity to connect with the Shift2DC coordination team from INESC ID – Ana Rita Nunes, Project Manager; Pedro Costa, Project Researcher; and Hugo Morais, Shift2DC Coordinator.
The team was present at the INESC ID exhibition stand in the EU Projects Zone throughout the event, showcasing the project’s progress and achievements, with a focus on the four demonstrators currently in development.
The event’s first day began early with the Shift2DC team members ready to engage with visitors at the INESC-ID stand.
Throughout the day, several project partners visited the booth, including Eaton’s team – Martina Josevski, Stefan Dan Costea, Filippo Virdis, Sergio Orlando, and Erdem Gumrukcu. Representatives from Watt & Well, Fabien Faure, Chloé Lespagnol, and Balazs Szappanyos, also stopped by, showcasing the collaborative spirit that drives the project forward.
The second day began early with the Session “Grid Technologies”, featuring Hugo Morais, project coordinator at INESC ID, alongside other energy experts, such as Luc Jacober (EDF), Ainhoa Cortes (CEIT Research Center), Jens Ewald (FEV Europe GmbH), Dionysis Papachristou from the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Waste and Water; and Antonis Papanikolaou as moderator.
The session focused on technologies enabling the integration of RES and microgrids into energy systems, with a specific look at islands and remote areas. It was an opportunity to share the research being developed by Shift2DC in the Madeira island, with the creation of a DC Digital Porth of the island.
On the second day, visits to the booth included partners from RWTH Aachen University with Katharina Hetzenecker and Tim Karsten, and Filippo Virdis from Eaton, who joined the Coordination team Ana Rita Nunes, Pedro Costa and Hugo Morais.
The final day at Enlit Europe was the conclusion of a productive and enriching networking experience for the Shift2DC project.
With almost one year of existence, expectations are high for what lies ahead. Currently the consortium is working on the development of DC solutions and strategies to be implemented and tested in four demonstrators installed in three European countries. Additionally, two living labs will be set up to test the developed solutions and algorithms.
