On February 6th, Shift2DC partner Schneider Electric hosted a workshop at its R&D facilities in Grenoble, France. The event agenda was focused on Work Package 2 (WP2) dedicated to tools, methods, and applications for DC solutions. Participants explored key advancements in earthing and protection methodologies for DC applications, contributing to the development of safer and more efficient energy solutions.
The meeting counted on industry and academic leaders that are part of this work package, namely EDF, RWTH Aachen University, Nexans Power Accessories, Eaton, INESC-ID, Fraunhofer IIS, and Schneider Electric, to discuss key deliverables, DC systems earthing and corrosion, DC short circuit calculations and structuring the DC protection plan.
The workshop also provided a platform to showcase the Solarise Pilot Project, a Current/OS-based DC microgrid featuring EV charging infrastructure. This demonstration raised relevant discussions among the Workshop participants on the future of sustainable energy distribution.
As part of the project and led by INESC ID, WP2 focuses on developing tools for DC solutions. The main expected contribution of this WP is the integration of new control strategies to enable efficient and resilient DC grid management. It will also incorporate innovative solutions developed in WP3 and contribute to the creation of specific libraries and use cases to model the demonstrators’ requirements.
