Buildings

The real-life commercial building demonstrator of the Shift2DC project will be developed in France.

The planned DC infrastructure will supply all DC compatible power needs of the building including the connection of PV system, DC/DC EV charging stations, heat pumps if possible, a battery energy storage system as well as the traditional loads.

Four Use Cases (UCs) will be tested on this demonstrator:

  • DC grid resilience: to explore the capability of a DC grid to function separately from upstream AC supply grid, only relying on its local production and storage units and control strategies.
  • DC grid self-healing: to ensure the DC grid capability to operate continuously in case of a faulty asset (converter part, cable…). New architectures will be proposed and tested to ensure continuous operation while isolating the fault.
  • DC energy hub: to try to mitigate the building impact on the AC grid by taking advantages of all DC flexibilities to optimize the self-consumption of the Bloc C using multi-level optimization strategies allowing better energy sharing.
  • DC services to the AC grid: to explore flexibility services provided to the AC grid to evaluate the adaptability of the DC system to situations of high and low power availability.
