The Shift2DC project was presented on April 16th and 17th at the 3rd Conference on DC Distribution Grids in Aachen, Germany.
Representing the project were partners Benedict Mortimer from Eaton and Jan Mathé from RWTH Aachen University. They took the opportunity to engage with industry and academic leaders, showcasing the project’s progress and contributing to a broader discussion on the future of direct current (DC) technology.
The primary focus of their contribution was to present the work being developed under the Shift2DC Project industry demonstrator in Germany. Conducted at EATON/RWTH, the project Demo focuses on designing advanced protection systems for DC grids and on introducing a new, jointly developed low- and medium-voltage DC demonstrator.
During the event, Eaton showcased its industry commitment as a conference sponsor with a dedicated exhibition booth, while RWTH Aachen University contributed with a scientific poster session.
Both presentations attracted a significant audience and fostered technical discussions, particularly about the future role of DC systems in industrial and energy-related applications.

The event also counted on a strong participation from fellow members of the Open Direct Current Alliance (ODCA), a key Shift2DC partner. Highlighting this collaboration, ODCA Chair Hartwig Stammberger (Eaton) delivered an invited talk on ‘DC Microgrids Applications of the Open DC Alliance,’ further driving strategic alignment across the sector.
