The Shift2DC project recently returned to the BRIDGE General Assembly (GA), held on March 23rd and 24th, 2026, in Brussels, reinforcing the project´s ongoing engagement with Key European stakeholders and collaboration within the Horizon Europe ecosystem.
The European Commission BRIDGE initiative brings together Horizon Europe-funded projects working across smart energy systems, storage technologies and digital innovation. Within this framework, Shift2DC collaborates with other consortia to advance the development and integration of DC solutions that support smarter, more efficient and eco-friendly energy systems.
This year´s General Assembly brought together policymakers, researchers and industry experts to address emerging challenges affecting Europe energy systems.
Discussions centered on the digitalization and automatization of grid infrastructure, interoperability and the growing importance of cross-sector integration to enhance system flexibility and storage in supporting renewable energy deployment. The Assembly also addressed several topics aligned with BRIDGE working groups activities including regulatory complexity and market design, the integration of artificial intelligence in energy management, the need for improved data-sharing frameworks. The conversation also emphasized the need to better align technological progress with policy development, while ensuring that consumers remain actively engaged in the energy transition.
Throughout the two-day agenda, the assembly was highly focused on the importance of turning research into real-world impact. For Shift2DC, this was an opportunity to contribute to the discussion on the future of DC integration, ensuring the project remains at the forefront of European energy innovation.
In addition to its participation in the GA meeting, Shift2DC has also been actively contributing to the Bridge working groups activities, to ensure that its findings can contribute to future policy recommendations and the development of new technical standards.
