Shift2DC Brings Direct Current Innovation Back to Enlit Europe

Enlit Europe 2025 brought the Shift2DC project team to Bilbao, Spain, between November 18 and 20. After a successful debut in Milan last year, the team returned to one of Europe’s leading energy events to present the project’s progress now that the first two years are completed.

This year’s edition gathered more than 15,000 energy professionals, creating a privileged environment for participants to explore innovative approaches to today’s energy challenges. Visitors had the opportunity to discover cutting-edge projects, technologies, and products reshaping how energy is generated, distributed, and consumed.

Throughout the three-day event, Shift2DC was showcased at the INESC-ID booth in the European Projects Zone – an ideal setting to engage with attendees and connect with other initiatives supported by the European Commission.

Shift2DC was represented onsite by Ana Rita Nunes and Pedro Costa from INESC ID, presenting the project’s research activities, achievements so far, and next steps. Over the course of the event, several project partners joined the booth to share their institutions’ contributions:

Day 1

  • Eaton: Benedict Mortimer, Stefan Dan Costea, Dimitrios Baros
  • TECNALIASalvador Ceballos, Asier Aristondo

Day 2

  • Watt & Well: Raul Iglesias, Chloé Lespagnol
  • TECNALIA: Susana Apiñániz Apiñániz
  • Eaton: Benedict Mortimer, Dimitrios Baros, Sergio Orlan

Day 3

EDFAmel Addala Jullien, R&D Project Manager, visited the booth before taking the stage to represent Shift2DC in the session “DC Technologies.”

During this session, experts presented the latest advancements in direct current solutions for TSOs and DSOs, including HVDC-wise, HYNET, CABLEGNOSIS, EasyDC-FOS, and DC-POWER.

At ENLIT, I shared how far we’ve come and how bold we remain to tackle the challenges ahead.
Our progress on DC technologies and grids shows the power of European cooperation. As we unite expertise, we accelerate the energy transition.”

Shift2DC’s participation at Enlit Europe 2025 once again provided a valuable platform to present the project’s achievements and reach a broad audience. The team presented progress across the project four Demonstrators that are now entering the testing phase. After two years focused primarily on planning, the consortium is now preparing the demonstrators performing integration tests between different devices before the validation in real environment.
